Students should bring the following things to school each day:
- Healthy Snack and Lunch
- Two-Pocket Folder
Kindergarten - Please read to your child each day. Kindergarten homework will be sent home each Monday and should be returned on Friday in the blue homework folder. In addition, kindergarten students will bring home books to read for homework.
First Grade - Each week your child will bring home a special blue homework folder with his/her homework packet inside. He/she should complete the packet during the week and return it to school on Friday with the folder. Please have your child only complete one page of math each day. In addition, first grade students will bring home books to read for homework.
This Week's News:
Kindergarten: This week we will review the letters and sounds of the alphabet, and we will continue Unit 3 of our Benchmark Advance reading series (Plants and Animals Have Needs). Our letter of the week is Pp. We will focus on printing Pp, its sound, and identifying words that begin with the letter Pp. In addition, the students will continue to practice their reading skills. This week's sight words will be: I, like, we, the, see, go, she, can, is, a, my.
First Grade: This week we will conclude Unit 3 of our Benchmark Advance series. We will focus on listening and retelling key story events, using illustrations to understand story events, describing characters, and defining words by category. Our spelling words will consist of the following sounds: th, sh, ng endings and our sight words will be: could, our, these. were.
Kindergarten: This week the students will practice writing the letter Pp. We will continue to focus on beginning each letter at the top and moving downward. In addition, kindergarten students will continue to practice writing their names and write simple sentences using our recent sight words (I, like, we, the, see, go, she, can, is, a, my).
First Grade: The students will continue to use their knowledge of letter sounds to write simple sentences with assistance to communicate their feelings and ideas. This week we will conclude our narrative writing unit. Specifically, we will revise our stories, edit them, and get them ready for publishing by illustrating them and creating a cover.
This week's math lessons will focus on the following concepts:
Kindergarten: review numbers, counting, writing numbers, 3D shapes.
First Grade: review number bonds, related addition and subtraction number sentences, writing numbers to 120, problem solving.

I earned Bachelors Degrees in Communications and Spanish from Pepperdine University and my teaching credential from California Lutheran University. This is my 27th year of teaching and my 26th year of teaching here at PVSEA. When I am not teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters, playing and watching sports, hiking, traveling, and going to the beach.
