California Assessment of Student Performance & Progress (CAASPP)

The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments are part of the state testing program called the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress or CAASPP. The CAASPP System is designed to give information to teachers, students, and their families about what students know and are able to do and whether they are on track to be ready for success in college or career when they graduate from high school.

Students in 3rd through 8th grades take the CAASPP each spring.  The CAASPP measures student progress over standards in English Language Arts and Math.  The tests are administered online utilizing Chrome book devices.  Some tests are computer adaptive while others are performance tasks that require constructed responses. Practice tests are available for students.

In addition to the CAASPP, the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) also provides Interim Assessment Blocks, which as short assessments measuring targeted standards.  These assessments are utilized by classroom teachers as interim metrics.
