  • WELCOME to the THINKS class!

    Welcome to first grade!  I am here for your children and for you.  Many of you find daily joys as well as multiple challenges, so please do not hesitate to reach out to me about anything.  We want this year to be meaningful and enjoyable while offering a standards-based curriculum plus more to help your children think deeply about multiple subjects.

    My communication will be by email so it is important for you to look for subject lines that say Mrs. Monka.  I will try to write "Mrs. Monka" first so you know to open it as soon as possible.  It is also important to pay attention to communication from our principal and our PVSD district staff.  Updates about activities and protocols are ongoing and ever changing.

    Our class time will always be built around friendly engagement, solid lessons, targeted review, and other interesting opportunities to learn.  Please feel free to email me with any questions, concerns, or comments.

    Becky and her husband, Steve, raised their three children in Camarillo and are now grandparents to seven children: two girls and five boys.  She enjoys outdoor activities like camping, hiking, sports, and gardening while savoring the great Camarillo weather.  During "indoor weather" times she loves to play cards, board games, and complete puzzles.  Reading and traveling are an ongoing love!                                                                                                                                               

    Becky has found teaching a very dynamic and rewarding career.  Becky has taught first grade over 20 years.  She has taught K-8th grade students in both small groups and traditional settings. Becky was the Teacher Supervisor for the PVSD home-school program navigating the education of multiple grades. She is GATE certified and she's been a GATE coordinator in PVSD.  She has been the PVSD and a school site Spelling Bee coordinator, ASB advisor for both grade school and middle school, recipient of various Grants and Impact II awards, a school Speech Coordinator, and has served on various district and school site advisory boards.  She was a PTO president at another PVSD school.  Becky loves the school environment and thinks teaching is the best job in world!
                                               
    Becky believes every student is a good student, so to all her students she says, "Believe!".  Her inspirational mantra is "Students are like a vine; they grow, blossom, and become fruit."  Enjoy your year in first grade!
