Welcome & Classroom Information

  • Welcome to 8th grade ELA, History, and Directed Studies! I am very excited about the 2018/19 school year at Las Colinas Middle School.  I am thrilled to be a Mustang this year and look forward to our time together. In this class, we will cover:

    • ELA - Readings: Culture, Horror, WWII, Anne Frank. Novels: “Roll Thunder Hear Me Cry” and “Hunger Games”
    • History - Covering Beginning - WWI, Map Skills, and Geography
    • Work on Social/Emotional and Academic, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals
    • Acquire skills needed to be successful in high school (test-taking tips, mindfulness techniques, classroom etiquette, stress-reduction, coping skills, self-advocacy, etc.)

Mutual RESPECT plays a large role in our classroom. The key to success in E-5 is having a positive attitude, being respectful to all who enter, and attending school every day.  In addition, I have the following Guidelines and Expectations:

    • Complete your work before making other requests (“Business before Pleasure.”)
    • Sit in assigned seats & remain seated
    • Use respectful language- NEVER be purposefully hurtful
    • Keep our classroom safe & clean (Walk, tuck bags under your table & clean up after yourself)
    • Listen when others are talking: RESPECT
    • Bring necessary materials to class every day (including following the appropriate dress code)
    • Enter assignments into your agenda every day
