Welcome Back, Leopard Families!!!
As my staff and I prepare to open the 2021-22 school year, I wanted to take a few moments to welcome you to the best kept secret in town--you are now an important part of the Las Posas family of learners! This will be my fourth year as principal for Las Posas and I count it as an honor to lead this amazing school of caring educators, staff, and dedicated parents. Having survived the extraordinary year that is now behind us, I am extremely confident that all children at Las Posas will be able to re-engage in the most meaningful, challenging instruction designed to foster robust academic growth while simultaneously promoting important character development and empathy for all.
For those that don't know me just yet, I am a native Venturan and graduated from Buena High in 1979. I attended Ventura Junior College and eventually earned my B.A. in Diversified Studies at Vanguard University in 1988. In 1998, I received my M.A. in Educational Administration from Azusa Pacific University. The 2021-22 school year will mark my 12th year serving in school administration and, overall, will be my 33rd year of service in our educational community. Needless to say, I have enjoyed watching kids grow and learn and seeing firsthand the difference that dedication and compassion can make in hundreds of lives along the way.
During my career, I have also had opportunities to participate in a variety of certification/training programs, including ELD/SDAIE Certification, the California School Leadership Academy (CSLA), as well as serve on various curriculum adoption committees in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. In 2002, I was able to serve as the key personnel for researching and implementing the SPARKS physical fitness program for the Castaic Union School District. I am also a member of both the Phi Delta Kappa International and Pi Lambda Theta educational organizations, both of which are committed to promoting free public education in a democratic society.
Prior to returning to PVSD in 2014, I served as an assistant principal for 3 years at two different schools. During my 22 years of teaching, I taught grades 3-5, and substituted in grades K-6. A little closer to home, I actually began my teaching career way back in 1990 at Santa Rosa Technology Magnet School where I taught 4th grade for 7 years. Fortunately for me, my career path eventually led me back to the Pleasant Valley School District in 2014.
As for my own family, my lovely wife Carol and I have raised 6 children between us. They are all young adults now and are learning how to navigate their new freedoms and responsibilities, along with providing us with 4 awesome grandkids! We truly love this part of the country and love to explore and learn new things as often as we can.
In closing, please visit our district website or our school website to find out additional information for enrollment, our Digital Learning Academy, or any myriad of topics that you need more details for as we approach our first day on August 25, 2021. Of course, feel free to reach out to me or my amazing office staff, either in person, by phone, or email to assist you with your needs.
