Dr. Kurt S. Lowry
Dr. Kurt Lowry was born in Columbus, Ohio, and moved to the San Fernando Valley with his family as an infant when his dad transferred from Anheuser-Busch's Columbus brewery to the iconic Van Nuys/Los Angeles brewery. He and his brother, Kent, Jr., were raised in the San Fernando Valley and attended both public and private schools.
Kurt attended Granada Hills High School, Los Angeles Pierce College, and California State University, Northridge, wherein he was a member of each school's baseball team.
Dr. Lowry earned his B.A., M.A., and California Preliminary and Professional Clear Teaching Credentials from California State University, Northridge (CSUN), his Administrative Services Credential and M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Principal Leadership Institute (PLI), and his Doctorate in Educational Leadership (K-12 Emphasis) from California Lutheran University (CLU).
Dr. Lowry, who enters his twentieth year as a K-12 educator, has served students and families as a teacher and school leader in urban and suburban public elementary, middle, and high school levels througout the city of Los Angeles, and South Bay, including in Pacoima/Arleta, Sun Valley, Lawndale, Hancock Park, Encino, Panorama City, North Hills, West Adams, Mid-City, South LA, and Hollywood.
In 2012, Kurt was recognized by both the Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles Board of Education with their annual "Trailblazer" award for his outstanding service and commitment to serving and educating children in the city of Los Angeles.
For the past twenty years, Dr. Lowry has facilitated test preparation workshops for high school students and adults who prepare to pass the SAT, CBEST, CSET, and/or GMAT exams as part of their respective application process for college and graduate schoool admission, and/or in partial fulfillment of teacher credentialing requirements in the State of California. He is also an adjunct faculty member in CLU's Graduate School of Education (GSOE) in the Department of Teaching and Learning wherein he teaches "Planning and Instruction for Content Standards" to preservice Special Education teacher candidates who are finishing up their credential requirements.
Dr. Lowry is a small business owner of "KidVestments sm," wherein he facilitates "Money and Investment Basics" and "Public Speaking Basics" workshops for kids and teenagers through LA Pierce College's "Community Services/Extension."
Dr. Lowry enjoys spending time with family and friends, leading, organizing, and developing school programs, personnel, and systems, reading, listening to music, watching movies and attending sporting events, plays, concerts, hiking, discussing politics and policy, riding fast roller coasters, speaking and maintaining his Spanish Language skills, and traveling.
Dr. Lowry, a Woodland Hills resident, married his fiancee, Jamie, who is a National Board Certified Teacher Exceptional Needs Specialist, on August 3rd, 2019. Dr. Lowry is the proud father of his daughter, Keira, who is thirteen.
