  • Hello, my name is Claudia Michelson and I am beginning my second year as a school counselor with Pleasant Valley School District.  I started my career as a 6th grade teacher and am now on my 16th year as a school counselor.

As a school counselor I have the privilege to interact and work with ALL students through classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and crisis intervention. My lessons cover topics such as school readiness skills, understanding feelings of self and others, problem solving skills, friendship skills, and good study habits.  I also collaborate with school staff and parents in order to best meet the needs of students.

A variety of small groups are offered throughout the school year.  Some topics that we may discuss include: friendships, stress & time management, goal-setting, academic planning, family changes, socail skills, organization, and problem solving skills. Groups consists of 5 - 8 members and typically meet once a week during lunchtime or after lunch for approximately 4 - 8 weeks. Students, parents, and staff are able to fill out a referral form in our school office. A signed permission slip by parent/legal guardian is always required before attending a group session.

My passion is guiding students to achieve their academic goals, social and emotional development, and individual achievements. I encourage you to contact me whenever you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you and your child in making this the best school year possible!

     Kindest Regards,
