Mrs. Elizabeth DeFreece- Kaufman

Hello PVSEA Preschool Families---  I would like to introduce  myself and our program at PVSEA. Hi my name is Mrs. DeFreece-Kaufman, however most families know me as Mrs. D. I am so excited to be starting this year back in the classroom with you as it is my second year with PVSEA preschool, however I have worked in the Districts preschool program for 10 years. On a personal note, I took some time off this past Spring to grow my family as we welcomed baby Bentley. In this time I learned more about the value of Self Care and went back to the roots of early childhood. My personal philosophy is to allow children time, play based learning and meaningful relationships to grow; explore, and practice development in a safe environment.  Working in the education field for almost 20 years I build a community based approach to our schedule, routines and interests throughout our day. Along my side are assistant teacher who help students while supporting the classroom. At PVSEA we have a morning class 8Am-11Am and an afternoon class 12PM-3PM. As this is the first school experience for many families we use tools that support communication and provide pictures, videos, messages, resources and an updated webpage to continue learning at home as well as keep families engaged. Throughout the classroom we have many opportunities for independent, small and large group play, teacher led activites and individualized development. Each child has their own cubby and is encouraged to move around the classroom with comfort and ease. Each child will have a private portfolio through an electronic app "Learning genie" that each parent will have access to throughout the year. As we are making efforts to keep everyone safe and free from illness all students must wear a mask while indoors. Outside mask usage is optional. We also wash hands frequently by adding this routine into our schedule and some of the "jobs" that students can help participate with in our week rotation. Weekly I provide lessons that encourage our daily routine and expand on skills as a class as well as the individual child's development through DRDP, ASQ and foundations frameworks through the department of education. Please add this page to your favorites as I update it monthly and as changes occur.  Take care, Stay safe and Enjoy a great school year.  Love, Mrs. D-Kaufman
