Dual Language Immersion - 2023-2024 - Preschool, TK, K Cohort
We have exciting news for the 2023-2024 incoming Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Cohort! Last year, on the PVSD LCAP survey, 65% of families noted that a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program should be explored. For several months our team has researched and viewed different models. In a unified consensus, the DCS faculty has elected to begin a Dual Language Immersion program next year at Dos Caminos starting with Preschool, TK and Kindergarten. Each year, we will add an additional grade level following this cohort with school-wide implementation in 2029. The model selected is 50% instruction in English and 50% instruction in Spanish.
The goal of the DCS Dual Language program is for students to develop high levels of language proficiency and literacy in English and Spanish languages, demonstrate mastery of California Content Standards, and develop an appreciation and understanding of diverse cultures. Students will have a foundation to earn the California Seal of Biliteracy to accompany their high school diploma.
The program for all students currently enrolled in K-5 at DCS will not change. However, we are working to offer an 8 week conversational Spanish elective as part of our enrichment program for all grades. Call today to reserve a spot for an upcoming tour of Dos Caminos.
DCS STEAM Sessions
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. This afterschool program will begin with Computer Science having students demonstrate mastery of the basics of computer coding, analog coding challenges, robotics and completion of Google CS First Coding program. Once expectations are met, the student will receive a badge noting their accomplishment. The students have as long as they need to work on the objectives and the DCS Makerspace will be opened at lunch for additional opportunities. There are six badges in total - Design, Engineering, Storytelling, Computer Science, Circuitry and Expert. We are excited to see your DCS Determination in completing these objectives and building your skill-set for displaying your learning with multiple means of expression. Dos Caminos School provides a dynamic student-centered environment with an emphasis on Career and College readiness. DCS students are explicitly taught executive functioning skills of organization, goal setting, and self-monitoring steps to success. These are important tools in displaying our DCS Determination.
Building on our storied traditions, the DCS team has worked to create school-wide initiatives that address the whole child and include social emotional learning, inclusion, character building, academic language and development. Our students are artists, athletes, scholars, and environmental stewards.
Our PTA has been instrumental in supporting expanded enrichment for students and volunteerism. Families will find partners in our scholarly ambitions and opportunities to assist in these endeavors.
Inspiring students to reach for the stars to capture their dreams starts at an early age. All students on the Dos Caminos campus - preschool through fifth grade - are part of our college and career - Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) initiative. Our determination to meet our goals will = our success. Click here to learn more
