#PVProud Purple Star Schools!
2023 - 2024
Congratulations Rancho Rosal School for being awarded the Purple Star to recognize their service to military affiliated families for 2023. They join Las Posas and Monte Vista as the only three schools in Ventura County to earn the Purple Star!

Pair of 'Purple Star' Camarillo schools honored for service to military families
Two Camarillo schools were recognized as California Purple Star Programs last week for their efforts to support military-connected families, the first schools in the county to receive the honor.
Monte Vista Middle and Las Posas Elementary schools join a list of just 91 Purple Star schools that the state education department said "reduce the burden" of frequent transitions for military families.
"We're just so proud to serve military-connected families," said Danielle Cortes, superintendent of the K-8 Pleasant Valley Unified School District.
The schools both have strong connections to Naval Base Ventura County: 8% of Monte Vista Middle School students and almost half of Las Posas school students come from military families.
Military-connected students change schools an average of three times more often than their counterparts, the state education department said. The Purple Star designation, launched last year, honors schools who embody "best practices" in easing the academic and emotional challenges of those frequent moves.
Pleasant Valley Unified, Cortes said, allows families who are about to relocate to the naval base to enroll "before they even arrive." Some, she said, get started "while they're still out of country."
The 6,700-student district lets students start or finish the school year online if families are faced with an ill-timed move and works with military-connected students to provide extra counseling, offer special events and organize clubs on both of its Purple Star campuses.
