Multilingual Learners
Multilingual learners in Pleasant Valley receive a world-class education from dedicated and proficient teachers. The multitude of languages and cultures they bring to our school district enriches all of our students and staff. PVSD provides a variety of program options, such as Structured English Immersion (SEI) and Dual Language Immersion in grades PreK, Transitional Kindergarten, and Kindergarten.
As part of the PVSD enrollment procedure, parents/guardians complete a home language survey that identifies students who may speak a language other than English. Per the California Education Code, the ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California ) is administered to determine the student’s level of English. The ELPAC is also administered annually to previously identified Multilingual learners for the purpose of monitoring student progress.
