Family Update 3/24/2023
Good afternoon PVSD families,
We hope that you and your children enjoyed this beautiful spring week! April showers came early and then cleared out for wonderful sunny days.
Unless there is something time-sensitive, we won’t be sending a Friday Update next week. As we head in to the spring holidays, I want to celebrate all of the diversity in our community by wishing you a wonderful Easter, honoring our families who celebrate Ramadan, and sending good wishes for a Happy Passover. I hope that you and your family enjoy this special time of year.
Please see the updates below including dates for Spring Break.
Sincerely,
Dr. Danielle Cortes
Superintendent of Schools
Spring Break
There will be no school Monday, April 3 through Friday, April 7 due to Spring Break. We will welcome students Monday, April 10.
Saturday Academy March 25th
Rain or shine, Saturday Academy will take place tomorrow, March 25th for families that signed their student up. We will see you there!
Improved Communication System
We are excited to share that Pleasant Valley will be piloting a new communication system called ParentSquare at Las Posas Elementary School and Los Primeros School of Sciences and Arts during April, May, and June of 2023. All PVSD schools will begin using ParentSquare district-wide for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. We hope this intuitive and familiar platform will help improve our communications with our PVSD community. Be on the lookout for communications from your school site this summer as we complete our transition to this new communications platform.
Note for parents who already have a ParentSquare account with another district in the county: ParentSquare may be familiar to PVSD families who have older siblings enrolled at high schools in Ventura County that also use this communication platform. If you’re already using ParentSquare with a sibling at a high school, you may have seen PVSD show up as a new navigation item or option in your mobile app or on the ParentSquare website. If your student does not attend one of the pilot schools listed above, please ignore this new option until you receive communication from your school that ParentSquare is being used. If you don’t see your school or PVSD as an option yet, it will be coming soon as we roll out the new system.
COVID -19 Update
On March 13, 2023 California Public Health updated the Guidance for Local Health Jurisdictions on Isolation and Quarantine of the General Public. Return to work or school guidance is now as follows:
- People with COVID 19 Symptoms must have an negative test or an alternative diagnosis on day 1-5 and be 24 hour fever free without the use of fever reducing medications (Day 0 is the day the symptoms started) in order to return to work/school. They should continue to test every 1-2 days until symptoms resolve.
- People who test positive for COVID may return to work/school after Day 5 even if they have not tested negative as long as the symptoms are not present or are mild and improving AND are 24 hour fever free without the use of fever reducing medications (Day 0 is the day symptoms started or the person tested positive – whichever came first).
- People who tested positive must mask at all times upon return to school/work through Day 10. They may remove the mask prior to Day 10 IF they have two sequential negative tests at least one day apart.
Please contact your school office if you have any questions regarding your child’s symptoms or COVID 19 illness.
